Ozempic (Semaglutide) 0.25-1mg is indicated for the treatment of adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise.
Wegovy is the formulation released for non diabetics to assist with weight loss. It also contains semaglutide but the dose range is 0.5-2.4mg.
Wegovy is FDA (US food and drug administration) approved for weight management in NON diabetics in the USA. We hope to see it available in Australia in 2022, however for selected patients it is possible to use Ozempic ( The same ingredient in Wegovy) , It is a lower dose but appears to be very effective in our weight loss patients combined with our supported diet and behaviour program.
Visit an Elina clinic in North Melbourne, Glen Waverley, Berwick and Bundoora to see if it is suitable for you.
Please note that the use of Ozempic in non-diabetics is “Off Label” use as the medication hasn’t obtained Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration approval as yet for this use. We will provide a detailed review and explanation of the evidence, risks and harms and potential benefits in great detail prior to prescribing.
